Devon

The first programme of its kind in Devon, ‘Positive People’ will help over 1,300 individuals who are out of work to build their confidence and develop their skills. The programme will be personally tailored to individual needs and will include help with personal development, health and wellbeing, and to develop life-skills including digital technology.

Partners began to deliver the £5 million programme in March 2017 and will deliver the project over the next three years. Pluss’ Chief Executive, Steve Hawkins, said “Positive People will support hundreds of people across Devon to overcome a range of barriers and build a brighter future for themselves and their families”.

Devon Community Foundation

Devon Community Foundation

Devon Community Foundation has distributed nearly £11 million to over 3,600 voluntary, community and social enterprises across the county, helping to support thousands of people in need each and every year. Quality accredited by UK Community Foundations and formally acknowledged and recognised by the Charity Commission for England and Wales, the role Devon Community Foundation plays is simple:

  • Funding…we invest in great ideas and unsung heroes, helping them to do what they do best: make a real difference to the lives of local people
  • Philanthropy…. we are a catalyst for giving, inspiring local philanthropy for individuals, families and businesses, helping to change lives today, tomorrow and forever
  • Nurturing Communities… we are the champion of local communities and all those who contribute to helping those communities thrive

As part of the Positive People Programme, Devon Community Foundation has two Community Enablers: Jo Manley who covers the northern part of Devon and Orla Turner, the south.  To get to know their local areas, they work within communities to identify people who are furthest from the labour market and are at risk of social exclusion. Once introduced to the programme, the Community Enablers role is to encourage people to engage with the programme, listening to their needs and help them decide if Positive People is right for them.

plymouthoctopus.org

POP+ is a voluntary sector support organisation with a wide reach across the City of Plymouth. Our members are voluntary organisations, community groups, faith groups, charities and social enterprises.

Our services include:

  • POP+ ideas – Providing funding advice, business support, capacity building and training
  • Collaboration, voice and influence – networking the sector across and with other sectors – public, health, education, commerce
  • Information Hub, Communications and Knowledge Bank – relevant to organisational development, sector issues and themes relating to work delivered by the sector

We became a partner in the PLUSS Positive People programme as we are keen to work County wide, as well as across the region and we can bring detailed knowledge of community groups, resources and networks to the delivery model.

We worked creatively with our partners Devon Community Foundation and Torbay Community Development Trust to recruit a team of Community Enablers, and we work together with COSMIC out in the community to bring digital and other learning themes to life for our programme participants and those interested in joining us.
