I attended Sight Village 2019 at Sandy Park on Wednesday 24th April. Sight Village is an event that travels the UK to showcase equipment and services available to support people with a visual impairment.
Whilst there I saw so many fantastic services and products ranging from Hotels and Holidays to Set Top Boxes for televisions. Everything I saw had been created, or modified, to enhance the lifestyle of people who have a visual impairment. There was a vast array of individuals including professionals, carers, educators, charities and more.
But, of course, I was there for Digital and I was not disappointed. There were magnifiers, text to speech equipment, speech to text equipment, wearable technology, GPS systems, Braille note takers, tablets, smartphones and I could go on and on.
The thing that astonished me most the most was how we are now at a point in Digital where we can take a standard piece of equipment, such as a tablet, and make simple modifications to make it suit the user. I would go as far to say that this is without exception. With the addition of cost-effective applications, pieces of hardware that can connect wirelessly and even a little play around with the built-in settings a device can do so much more than a lot of us realise.
The Digital team at Positive People are here to help. If you have a device that isn’t working for you or you feel as though you must work hard to get what you want, then please do get in touch. We believe that your digital should work for you, not the other way around.
