International Volunteers Day (IVD) is an international celebration that was created by the UN in 1985. IVD will take place on the 5th of December this year and is an opportunity for volunteers, and volunteer organisations, to raise awareness of the contribution they make to their communities. It is also viewed as a unique chance for volunteers and organisations to celebrate their efforts, to share their values, and to promote their work among their communities.
The act of volunteering is found in all cultures, languages, and religions. Each year, hundreds of millions of people volunteer their time and skills to help make the world a better place. When they volunteer, they help to improve the lives of others. And when they volunteer, they also gain a greater sense of belonging to their communities.
On 5th December, people around the world will celebrate IVD with COVID-19 Secure celebrations, volunteer fairs, group clean ups, blood donations, conferences, exhibitions, fundraising, workshops, and volunteer recognition events.
Positive people recognise the importance that volunteers bring to our project. Cosmic have teamed up with several volunteers during the project to help assistance efforts to reach our community with digital support. They have helped with Digital Cafes, workshops and creative sessions and have been invaluable in delivering these sessions. We have also offered support, guidance, and training opportunities to volunteers to enable them to pursue future goals.
If you are thinking about volunteering, there are several ways you can do this. Check out our website for Positive People Opportunities
For other opportunities in the area you can visit DoIT’s website. This has several varied volunteer opportunities across Devon.
You can also get more information about volunteering from your local Volunteer Centre. You can use this website to find your nearest centre and enquire about celebrations in your area.
Whether you are thinking about volunteering, or looking for volunteers, the experience is both rewarding and fulfilling. We hope you make use of Volunteers Day and think about the positive impact we can all have on our community.
