Our Hopeful Families partners, Halifax Opportunities Trust, Himmat and St Augustine’s are working together to ensure those living in Central Halifax who may be struggling to get the necessities they need.
“As soon as the government restrictions were announced, we knew that there would be many households in our communities that would struggle to get basic supplies due to isolating.
“There was also a major concern about the lack of school meals for children in the more vulnerable families. It was with this in mind that we decided to drastically alter our project delivery to meet this immediate crisis.
“We partnered with other like-minded organisations in our locality and pooled our resources to provide a food parcel delivery service, along with hot takeaway meals for the most needy resident.
“The Hopeful Families team has risen to the challenge, mobilising quickly & getting involved in taking the telephone referrals to pass to the ground team from the other organisations who are doing the preparation and delivery.
“We are also sourcing & collecting stock and applying for funding donations – all while adapting to our new home working environments.
“Within the first 10 days of the service, we have taken over 200 phone calls and the external team have delivered 180 parcels to our community.
“We think this is an amazing achievement and a huge team effort to support our community. We will continue to participate in this community project as long as we are needed”.
